What Should I write?

By Dipesh Poudel

What should I write? I have been thinking around for an hour but nothing solid has struck my mind. Maybe I should take a break. With a hope of getting an idea for story that I promised my editor for this week. It was cold and dark outside. I decided to go to a café that’s a  block from my house (Maybe I can get some ideas for my story there).

On the way, I had to walk through a dark alley. There I saw something. I went a little further to investigate. It was a small bright butterfly. My instincts told me to follow it. So for no specific reason I started following it. I was so concentrated on following that butterfly, I did not even keep track of where I was going. The butterfly reached a garden of glowing flowers. I was totally lost in its beauty. In the middle of the garden there was a girl flying and her glow was making the glowing garden look like a dim candle.

She was so beautiful that I lost track of time watching her (I would have explained everything about her that made for beautiful but I don’t have the words to do so). After a near eternity, I decided that I should go and talk to her. I approached her and tried to open my mouth but words did not come out. I gathered some courage and asked her, who she was? She answered in her beautiful voice, “It is not important who I am. Do you have any idea who you are?” I was confused by her question. “Of course I know who I am. What kind of question is that?” I replied. With a smile she said, “Everything that you knew about yourself is a lie. You will soon realize that you are not some normal human being.” I asked her if she could tell me who I was. She replied that I will know when the time comes. She snapped her finger and there was a light so bright that I could not see anything.

When I could see properly again I was in my bed and the sun was shining through my window. I realized it was morning. I thought it was a just a dream but it felt so real. After that dream (or incident), the question of my identity is still haunting me.
