On March 31, 2016, Tesla unveiled their long-anticipated Model 3. In an event in Tesla’s headquarter in California, CEO Elon Musk unveiled their $35,000 electric vehicle. This car could be the very beginning of mainstream electric vehicles.

Tesla Model 3 is the final phase of Tesla’s long-term project to provide an affordable, good-looking and long-range electric vehicle. Previously, Tesla manufactured high-end electric vehicles – Roadster, Model S and Model X. These electric vehicles were high-end luxury cars designed for rich customers. This was Tesla’s strategy to build up the hype for electric vehicles and to raise money to design and manufacture the Model 3, which is the company’s main objective.

Tesla’s Model S, which is a mid-range electric vehicle was loved by the masses and garnered more than a perfect score of 103 out of 100 by Consumer Reports. Following the success of Model S, people had high expectations of Model 3, and they were not disappointed. On April 7th, the company announced that they had received 325,000 preorders for the Model 3, which is the biggest one-week launch of any product ever.

So, why did so many people preordered the Model 3? Value. At $35,000 dollars, as Elon Musk, claims, one could not get a better car than the Model 3. The Model 3 has a five-star safety rating- mainly due to the crumble zone in front of the car, it would do 0 to 100 km in just 6 seconds, autopilot capability, 346 km of range per charge, standard supercharging capability, arguably good-looks, and obviously zero carbon emissions.

Moreover, with 7200 superchargers and 15,000 destination chargers to be up and running by the end of 2017 in North America, Europe, and Asia, one would not have to worry about the limited range.

Tesla Model 3 is the epitome of American ingenuity, and if Tesla could deliver these cars in a timely manner, it would be a revolution not only for the company but also for the automotive industry and could lay the base for our fight against global warming.
