Wow shaping life in the dark sounds extremely interesting, doesn’t it? Any plant can grow in enough light, but only few can retain in the darkness. Those plants are really special. What comes to your mind when someone says, “Life is a prison”; what could be worse than that? The freedom of an individual is lost within the narrow walls of prisons. Whoever says one should die to see hell, tell them that there is an awful place worse than hell on this planet and it's called “prison”.   But perhaps some can utilize the time in prison to focus and renew themselves or to become better human beings. Hey, don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to fool you, but just rethink about it. Today I watched “The Shawshank Redemption” recommended by one of my friends. How can I forget to thank him? Hey man, thanks for making my day! I just wrote on my Facebook status about this movie. No doubt, Barsha has found her favorite movie, “The Shawshank Redemption”. It is based on the novella “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” by Stephen King. The movie was written and directed by Frank Darabont. Now, I am in great confusion. Whom should I appreciate, Stephen King or Frank Darabont? Both of them have given the most inspiring cinematic creation to the world. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman have added great charm to this movie. Now let’s move towards its story. A banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is accused of murder of his wife and her lover. He is sent to Shawshank Prison for life. He finds his cellmate, Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding. Andy asks for a rock hammer and a large poster of Rita Hayworth. He faces the bitterness of torture at first. He is raped time and again by a gang of predatory prisoners called "The Sisters" which is led by Bogs Diamond. After a few years, that devil Bogs is sent to another prison. Andy is free now. He transforms himself from a victim to a hero. He uses his banking capabilities to help the police warden earn money. Warden never wants to lose Andy or let’s say a source of money. Andy seems so frustrated and asks for a rope from one of the prisoners. When guards enter into his room, they get shocked. I was literally crying at that time. I thought he hanged himself. But I was wrong. He ran away by digging a tunnel. That hole is hidden behind the large poster of Rita. This was the point when I decided this movie is the best one. He changes his identity and finally mails the ledger and evidence of the corruption and murders at Shawshank to a local newspaper. After spending 40 years in prison, Red comes out and those soul mates and former cellmates find a new path for their lives. Andy keeps on saying to Red, “I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.” Yes, this is life. Either fight with the difficulties and arise from the dust or die every day with regrets and dissatisfaction. The choice is yours. Andy believes that hope can change everything. Red says, “Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.” No, hope is not a dangerous thing. This thought is actually dangerous. Hope gives meaning to life.  Hope is the sunshine in the darkness. Hope is happiness. How can happiness be a dangerous thing? Hope is a little thing which keeps you alive. The best thing about this movie is it has many inspiring lines that will give you goose bumps. When Andy ran away from the prison, Red says, “I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.” I don’t know why this saying gives me a tinge of joy and sadness simultaneously. This movie talks about regret, hope, crime, love, hatred, religion and freedom. What is freedom? To eat whatever we like, to listen to music whenever we want, to dream, to spread our arms and feel the wind passing by our heads and to dance in the rhythm of our heartbeat. I highly recommend this movie. I bet many of you will thank me.  The story that will keep hope and freedom alive in every individual’s heart and mind. I don’t want to stop writing about this movie. Yes, those hundred forty two minutes spent watching that movie made me more hopeful and cheerful than yesterday.
