As the first of the participants are ushered into the area, the excitement in the air is palpable. Deerwalk’s cafeteria has been transformed into a fairground with 18 different companies’ stalls ready to entertain the participants. At midday, DWIT Job Fair has begun in earnest. Each of the stall occupied with participants carrying a bunch of CVs in their hands ready for the interview. Most of them are fresh graduates or students nearing their graduation, new on the field looking for employment. Some are seasoned interns looking for better opportunities. DWIT Job Fair has attracted more than seven hundred registered participants alone and unregistered people are free to attend the event as well. All the participants are assigned IDs and only allowed entrance to the fairground in manageable batches. Among the many participants that I had the chance to talk to, two of them had been selected for their second round of interview. While I am certain there were many more who got the good news, there were some who looked a little flustered after their first interview. “I was not exactly expecting to have to give an actual interview and tests, but this might actually help me get over my fear of interviews,” says Sandhya Gyawali, a graduate participant. There were also some participants currently pursuing their graduate degree who gained at least some exposure and experience.

With more than 800 participants, there was a constant flow of participants all throughout the event from 12 to 5 p.m. As soon as we graduate, we want to find job opportunities. In the case of Nepal, it is a growing trend for youths to go looking for opportunities abroad. “These sorts of events can be useful to inform the youths about employment opportunities here in Nepal.” says another participant. The event was a win-win situation for both companies and participants looking for jobs. It has provided a wonderful opportunity for them know about the different companies that are looking to employ people. Having both parties at the same place proved to be productive for everyone involved by forming a bridge between them.
