Gone are the days

By Asmita Subedi

It’s almost the end of the year; all set to pack up the memories of the previous year and welcome yet another fabulous year. Finals of almost every school children have come to an end and they are all enjoying their holidays with the whole of their hearts. Finally, it’s the only time in the whole year where a student completely frees himself or herself from the burden of reading, writing assignments and exams. It’s the most rejoicing moment where there is just fun and happiness all around. All these things triggered my mind when I was returning back to home from my college. I saw a group of school students wandering around and from what I saw; it must have been their last day of the final exam. They were all colorful; colors on their faces and all the writings on their clothes. The shirts were full of memos with quotes of friendships asking each other not to forget them and achieve their dreams in the future. There was some sort of pleasure and excitement in their faces and their expressions were lively. Afterwards, I saw small kids running around with their play kits. The innocence they had on their face reminded me of the life as a kid, life with no worries at all. There I realized how busy I had been that I had no time to remember my school days and all those fun. Then I began to recall my school days. It’s obvious that everyone misses his/her school days as it’s the important part of everyone’s life. Similarly, I began to rewind and recall moments of fighting for all the little stuffs and afterwards trying to impress each other, throwing stuffs at friends and behaving as if we don’t know anything. Playing pranks, putting tails on the backs and walking all around the school was unforgettable. The fun part has been just to sleep with eyes opened in the most boring classes. Most of all, the hilarious moment was when we were called by the principal in the office and scolded for our spoiled results. I just can’t forget the moments of teasing and pulling each other’s legs and laughing seeing each other’s face after being scolded by the teacher. The end of every exam was like winning the battle. It was not only the fun part, but also the about the emotions we shared. We were ready to sacrifice our best things for the sake of our friends just to bring a single smile on their faces. And I still remember the last day of my SLC, we almost played Holi of colors, wrote memos on the school dresses, exchanged each other’s stuff and ended up with tears in eyes in the pain of being apart from one another. Really those days were awesome and memorable. Learning together with all those fun was a great experience indeed. Now I just wonder what if those days would ever be back again. No matter what, the stream of life flows continuously in its own ways. Yesterday it was ours and today, it’s theirs and the process continues. But what remains with us are just the sweet memories of the past days. Recalling these beautiful moments might wet our eyes, but for sure, it still leaves a smile on our faces. And even sometimes the memories wouldn’t be just the mementos of the blissful hours, but also the tangible precious debris of the storm that rages in our soul. So, no matter whatever be the situation or wherever we go, still the memories will forever remain with us. We must all continue to cherish each moment and have fun for the real happiness.
