By Aakankshya Shrestha

Abhishek Khatiwada is the president of the Documentary, Movie, and Dramatics Club. He is an avid hiker who considers himself an extrovert. Aakankshya Shrestha, from DWIT News, caught up with Abhishek Khatiwada. Here's the interview she had with her. What are the three words your family or friends would use to describe you? Well, I cannot be sure but as per I know they might describe me as a loving, caring and responsible person. What makes you happiest? I enjoy every little thing happening in my life. My happiness doesn’t rely on one single thing. But if you ask me what makes me the happiest, I’d say that is a big smile on my family’s face when they see me. What things do you not like to do? I don’t like to be surrounded by arrogant people. I can’t move as per others’ moods. I don’t like people controlling me. What was your upbringing like? I was born and raised in Dhankuta, which is a Hilly region. I had to walk 45+ minutes to reach my school. The place where I spent my early 15 years of my life had a lot of orange trees. So, I would say my upbringing was as juicy as those oranges. It was the time of Maoist civil war so I was not allowed to travel far from my house. Life was limited to home and school. Every day was exciting. There was no cable connection in my television, so I had to wait till Saturday every week to watch movies. Later, I moved to Kathmandu. So as a whole, life has been quite tough but my family has always been supportive; they have always been there for me. Who is your personal hero? Why? As like many other youths out there, my father is my personal hero. Though I don’t get much time to spend with him as he has to travel a lot, it is always fun when he is around and the moments that I get to share with him are cherishable. I have seen him working hard for us. It’s his struggle that makes him my hero. What’s the one thing people always misunderstand about you? There are two things, actually. Sometimes I like to sit alone and think. People think I am sad and lonely when they see me spending some "me-time." Also, when people meet me for the first time, they find me arrogant which I am not. What’s your greatest failure and how did you overcome it? I would rather not talk about it. But overcoming that moment was all about the right people around you at the right moment. The support that I received at the right time was all that mattered and that’s just how I could overcome that phase. Do you consider yourself extrovert or introvert? I prefer to consider myself an extrovert. Why did you choose your respective club? What motivates you to work hard for the club? I spent two years in the Hiking club and it gave a lot to me. We had to make videos of our hikes. I eventually got fascinated by videos and making videos became my new passion. That’s the main reason for choosing this club. I saw a big space where I had no boundaries, I felt like if I get a good team I can do anything. Exciting members and the ideas and activities we do motivates me to work hard for the club. Club goals or club members? What comes first for you? Actually lifting up the club members is the main goal of the club. Both are interrelated so there is no point of choosing one. What kind of legacy do you want to leave? I am proud of my club members who managed to run the club smoothly in my absence (one month to be precise). That’s what I want to leave behind. I want my club members to be able to lead the club and continue what I started.
