In the previous issues, I had written about “A Walk to Remember” and “Dear John”. Now, I am here with another romantic book “The Notebook”. The books of Nicholas Sparks are more or less similar, but I never feel monotonous reading his books.

The best phrase that I have read again and again from The Notebook is

I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul and to me, this has always been enough.

Every time I read this line, I find different meaning hiding behind these words.

Noah Calhoun, a 31 year old man returns from World War II. He is haunted by his past where he had spent his most memorable moments with Allie. They were in relation, but something was in between them that forced them apart. They had spent a very special summer together before they had separated. The letter sent by Noah was unanswered by Allie and hence, he joined the war, thinking this could help him to move on.

After 14 years, he returns back to his home town to restore his farmhouse.  Fortunately, Allie gets to see newspaper article about the house. Seeing this article, she goes to meet him. They cannot hold back each other’s feelings and emotions. There is nothing different between them, except the fact that she is now engaged with a high class man named Lon, who is professionally a lawyer.  Noah begs her to love and stay with her. Unwillingly, she leaves him to marry Lon.

A different scenario comes in the story where, Noah reads a book to a woman suffering from Alzheimer. She does not recognize anyone, not even the man who reads notebook for her. But she keeps on telling him that she loves her husband very much. One day when she opens her eyes, she recognizes that it was her husband Noah who was reading the book for her. And guess who's that woman. She is non-other than Allie, which comes as a surprise. They kiss each other in the hospital and fall asleep there. The love of Noah and Allie in the end is as pure and as powerful as it was in the beginning.

To know more about what happens after she leaves him and how the couple re-unite again, read “The Notebook”. This has been the best seller not only in America but around the world. Read the book and find out what makes it so special!
