“A computer can be a better judge of character than an individual’s family or friends.” This is a statement made by a research group combined of students from Cambridge and Stanford University. They say that a computer can sum up personality traits better than family and friends. In my opinion, this just might be the case. Your gadget knows you better than your family. This might seem absurd but think about it. Doesn’t it make sense? It is unbelievable to think that a machine could understand us better than our own loved ones but it’s true. You carry your cell phone everywhere you go, you look at your laptop for hours at a time, and you spend hours staring at the screen of a computer or TV. You are surrounded by gadgets. Every one of us has a gadget with us at any given moment. They are a part of our lives and we are dependent on them. They travel to all the places we travel, they are with us when we explore new places, they are with us when we are sad, when we are happy, when we feel proud of something, when we are jealous or angry. They are with us when we are at our lowest and they are with us when we are at our strongest. At times not even our parents or friends can tell if we are sad or happy but if a gadget could speak, it would surely say something to us that others couldn’t. The main gadget that we all have in our pockets right now is our cell phone. That is the number one must have item that we all carry with us. We use our cell phones and our computers to connect to the internet. There are a lot of things we browse through and the computer keeps a track of all the activities. Almost all of us have accounts in social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many more. We provide them with all of our personal information. We use these sites multiple times in a day. We upload pictures, update status, “LIKE”, “COMMENT”, “RETWEET” various things in these sites. So, it is no surprise that they know what we are like, what type of things we are most comfortable with, what type of person we are and what type of thoughts we have. They know everything about us. Even while writing this article, I have checked my Facebook a handful of times. We just cannot stay away for too long. So, go ahead and like away on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram — just know that you may be revealing something profound in the process. Social sites may know many things about us but it is limited to only those things which we choose to provide. Our gadgets are in a whole another league entirely. They know our deepest darkest secrets, they know who we are, they know where we live, and who our families and friends are. These are things that aren’t very embarrassing but there are other things that our gadgets know about us. They know with whom we were out late last night, they know where we go all day, they know who calls and messages us, they know if anything we say is the truth or a lie. Gadgets are a major part of our lives but don’t make it a top priority. We should be less focused in the virtual world that our gadgets provide and focus in the real world in front of us. Tell your parents what’s new in our life. Hang out with friends more and don’t just stay up late chatting with them. The real world is full of exciting adventures and fun times. Let’s stop being used by our gadgets and start using them to explore new possibilities.
