What If My Favorite Thing Gets Taken Away from Me?

By Abhusan Gautam

“It can be coins or sports or politics or horses or music or faith... the saddest people I've ever met in life are the ones who don't care deeply about anything at all. Passion and satisfaction go hand in hand, and without them, any happiness is only temporary, because there's nothing to make it last.” ― Nicholas Sparks They say a person is defined by his passions. The things he does, the kind of music he listens to, his hobbies all contribute to his personality. If a person was allowed 100% freedom, he would certainly spend his entire time doing one thing he loves, whatever that might be. But what if, that thing was taken away from him, never to return, how would he react? Will he find other hobbies, develop new passion or just breakdown? There is a phrase on the internet: Sit down, Try not to cry, Cry a lot. Yeah, maybe that will happen if my favorite hobby was taken away from me. If you know that I exist, you will also know what my favorite thing is: e-sports. I have been doing this since I was graced with a PC and I can’t think of anything else better to spend my time with.  Gaming has helped me feel stronger than I was before because I can take full control of the virtual world and also relive stress. Of course, it has intervened with the other aspects of me: my social life, my personality and mostly my education. But it doesn’t matter to me since it is one thing I’m truly proud of. At this stage of my life, if my hobby was taken away from me, it would break me down but life doesn’t end there, does it? I’d have to adapt to “no-gaming” life slowly (“Ouch, its painful to even think about it”). It would take time to adjust to the situation, but with sheer willpower one can overcome anything. I’d take my time to regroup and analyze my life and then continue my life as it is supposed to: studying and doing other normal things. Of course, I’d automatically pick up another favorite activity and pursue it whole heartedly. But with e-sports out of the picture, I can imagine my life much successful than it is now. I’d be away from the computer screens and instead hang around with my friends learning new stuffs along the way, that is, be more social. Writing has always been my one of favorite hobbies, so I would be writing short stories, poems and other stuffs effectively improving my writing skills. There are infinite number of things that would enter the fray if e-sports was taken away. But sadly, it isn’t so deal with it. Habits and hobbies, they come silently but stay forever. You’ve got to have hobbies, you have to be passionate about something. Always try to follow your hobbies and your passions as they make you, you. But never let your passions come between your life goals as those are also equally important. And also don’t try to take away someone else’s hobbies from them, because the outcome can be devastating.
