It is written by Samrat Upadhyay, a Nepali writer who is based in USA. The writer has summed up the capital city in such a way that you feel like you are experiencing the stories in person. The book is a collection of short stories about the lives of the people living in Kathmandu. There are nine stories total and each one of them is filled with a part of Nepali society, its anguish and its mystery. First impressions are always important. Reading the title of the book, “Arresting God in Kathmandu”, a mysterious name for a book indeed. The mysterious name that the book carries can indicate to the readers the type of book it is. As I have already read this book, all I can say is that it is simply amazing and awe inspiring. The writer has used the actual location and incidents of Kathmandu as his inspiration and this is seen in the book. The titles of the stories will surprise the readers the most. For example: The Good Shopkeeper The Cooking Poet The Limping Bride The Man with Long Hair All of these stories have their own background, their own message, their own characters and their own image of society. As you read through the pages you will be transported to a different world. The way the writer has written the stories are simple, sweet, elegant and raw that you will not want to put the book down. I myself have enjoyed a lot while reading this book. It is simple to understand, easy to read and as a Nepali, I love this book even more. Hope you will read this book as well and experience its wonders, its mystery and its simplicity. This is must read for all book lovers.
