Discover Yourself……

By Utkrista K.C.

“Dance the night away. Live your life, and stay young on the floor…………. Aa la la la la …….” ‘Hey! Come on let’s dance’ ‘No, I don’t know how to dance’ ‘Just move yourself, its fun’ ‘I don’t know the steps. ‘ Is it the same reason for stepping back from dancing? Or do you feel shy to dance in front of others? Are you afraid of being judged by everyone around? Now, for a moment just forget everything. Feel that you are really good at dancing. Have you ever noticed that the daily activities you do are all part of dancing? In a day, how many times your mood fluctuates? Sometimes you get happy and sometimes you feel sad, later on somebody makes you angry. These are all your dancing expressions. You must use them according to the songs. Let’s say you are going to dance in the song “Because I am happy. Clap along……..”, then your grumbling face won’t work, your expressions simply don’t match. I think you got the point about when to change your facial expressions. Then, remember yourself crossing a road, what do you do at that time? You move your eyes to see if vehicles are approaching near you. If you are the one who gets afraid of vehicles but also if you managed to cross the road, looking up, and your expression would be like “Oh My God! I did it.”; your movement of eyes can be called dancing. Similarly, we may not know all the languages, but we know how to talk in the language we are good at. We may not be  good public speakers, but we turn up as a perfect speakers in front of people whom we are comfortable with. Now don’t get astonished if I say that the same way we move our lips while talking works as lip-synching while dancing. Does it sound amazing? Yeah! It is. Likewise, you may not walk for miles but you walk because you can’t use your vehicle to move from one room to another, or your bus station is far away from your house and for many other reasons. The way you walk is a dance step. Similarly, when you are attending a program and the MC says “Give a round of applause for …..” You automatically start clapping, again another dancing step. The way you wash your clothes, the way you wash the dishes, the way you protest by raising hands, the way you jump while playing games, the way you rub your hands when you feel cold, the way you ring a bell, the way you move your head... and there are many things you do, but still you fail to recognize them to be dancing steps. It is more interesting that the way a football player falls on the ground with his legs folded wrapped up by arms rolling like a ball, the same technique is used as a step in dancing. Various forms of dance originated in the same manner. Now, you may be thinking “Oh! I know all the steps, I know how to use the facial gestures but how can I start? I am not used to it.” First of all, feel the music, then start these steps and don’t forget to go with the flow of music. It is  as simple as counting 1, 2, 3 … If you are still afraid of starting then just close your eyes and move your body as if nobody is watching you. I am pretty sure that if you did this just once giving your 100% then the next time you will not be the one stepping back from dance floor, but you will be the one to inspire everyone around. And at last, when you dance to your own rhythm, people may not understand you; they may even despise you. But mostly they’ll wish they had the courage to do the same.
