DeerCoders – another brain teasing yet an exciting competition, commenced on Dec. 27. It is a weekly competition started by Software Club where the participants are tested for their coding knowledge and problem-solving ability within a given time frame, ultimately fostering their programming skills. The first session includes drawing a flowchart, writing algorithm and coding in C based on the algorithm that would solve the given problem. The second session is the coding session where every participant would be given a different scenario and they would have to write code based on it. The third and fourth session comprises of debugging the provided code and also interviewing the participants. Among all the four sessions, the fourth session would be given the highest priority.   DeerCoders was introduced two years back with the aim of encouraging students to develop their programming skills and also sharpening their mind with different concepts of programming. Apart from this, selection of the best participants is also carried out.
"The main goal of the activity is to help students excel in the art of coding by making them compete among themselves. We all know that experience is a tough teacher but the lessons learned by it last for a lifetime.” - Shreyansh Lodha '18, President, Software Club
DeerCoders had been discontinued as there were less coding sessions and more of multiple choice questions and algorithms. So this time they have been planning to focus mainly on coding. Apart from this, most of the questions asked were from beginner level to the highest level and there weren’t many questions that focused on a particular academic year. So, this competition was halted for two years. We hope that the expectations of both the students and the club gets fulfilled and also hope that the program would run successfully. Also, we hope that students get better at their programming skills through this competition. DWIT News would like to wish all the participants all the best for their upcoming sessions.
