CES, short for Consumer Electronics Show is the world’s biggest expo on everything related to technology. From 8k TVs to futuristic cars, this year’s CES was filled with things every tech enthusiast dreams of owning.

Let’s talk about the numbers. For CES 2016, around 3,800 exhibitors were present covering an area of 2.4 million square feet in multiple locations around Las Vegas. According to twice.com, an estimate of around 170,000 industry professionals were drawn to the event, including more than 50,000 from outside the U.S. #CES2016 was mentioned 1,278,870 times in the social media, and a total of 15.2 billion posts related to the event was made. To put these numbers to perspective, Nepal’s CAN InfoTech 2015 only had a mere 219 stalls.

The pre-show events started from 4-5 January, and the event officially started from the 6th of January and ended on the 9th of January. The show was covered by a huge number of tech Youtubers and bloggers, and almost every media source.

TVs in CES 2016 were one of the most talked about electronics. TVs with 4k and even 8k resolutions were a common sight. LG demonstrated TVs which could be rolled up, and Samsung showed off their modular TVs which could transform to almost any aspect ratio. The event was filled with new laptops like the new Alienware 13 or the Razer Blade Stealth which could be connected to an external graphics processor. There were also powerful all-in-one desktops like the Origin PC Omni.

Virtual Reality gears like Oculus Rift, and HTC’s valve powered VR; the Vive Pre, and the PlayStation VR were demonstrated at the show. Apart from that, drones were also one of the more popular sights in the show. They had drones big enough to transport humans, and drones capable of taking 360 degree footage. Smart fridges from LG and Samsung were announced. Some smartphones from Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE were also announced.

CES had a lot of car companies showing off their latest cars integrated with the latest technologies. One of the most interesting development in car technology which caught my eye, was the self-driving car from Ford. Along with that,  electric cars like Bolt from Chevy were also quite a hit at the event.

Apart from all the technology that we’re used to, or at least had heard of before, there were also some weird products like video games for your dog, floating speakers, gloves connected to robots, and even hover boards which can be controlled by your smart phones.

With all the new technologies previewed at the CES 2016, one can safely assume that 2016 will be a hell of a year for technology.
