The book, Arresting God in Kathmandu, is the writer’s debut book which was published in 2001.  It is a collection of nine short stories that provide an insight into the everyday life of people in Kathmandu Valley. What makes this book special is the fact that this book marks one of the first time a book written in English by Nepali writer has been published in the Western countries. The book has been awarded the Whiting Writers’ Award for fiction as well. For the discussion of this book, which is planned to have four discussion sessions over four weeks, we have guest members, Kundan Shumsher Rana and Umang Gurung, who are fifth and third semester students at DWIT respectively. They shall be joining us on all four sessions. The Book Club also welcomes anyone else who is interested to join our discussion sessions, which are conducted every Thurday starting at around 5 pm and lasting for an hour, in the couch room besides the DWIT Library. The book provides a familiar vibe since the places, and some events in the stories are well known by the residents of Kathmandu. Places like Indrachowk, Ason, Pashupatinath, etc. have been discussed about by the writer in some of his stories in the book. The writer himself will be joining us for an ECA session, sometime in August. The Book Club is planning to do some creative writing and another quiz session at the end of this book as well. The Book Club will also post a compiled review/summary of both One Hundred Years of Solitude and Arresting God in Kathmandu after having read the latter book.
