The Nepali Music industry has lost an iconic figure today as Khem Raj Gurung(1975-2016) has sadly passed away after losing a battle with Jaundice and liver problems.

Khem Raj Gurung, born on 14Th January, 1975 in Sankhhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, was one of the most popular singers in Nepali folk music scene during the 1990s and 2000s. He contributed some of the most famous folk songs to the Nepali music industry with timeless classics such as “Wari Jamuna Pari Jamuna”, “Bhanchan Buda paka le” and much more. The words to “Wari Jamuna” still remains fresh in the minds of thousands of Nepalese music fanatics to this very day and it will remain so for many more decades to come. Though he specialized in folk music, his songs were very relatable with people of all religion and culture and was famous throughout the nation.

He was hospitalized in the Chabhil-based Medicare Hospital to treat his liver. It turns out that the family members were preparing to airlift Gurung to New Delhi, India for further treatment. However, the doctors attending to the singer had kept him on a ventilator life support citing critical health conditions and sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, he lost his life on Thursday, 25 August 2016.

There is no doubt that the entire country will mourn his loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family members in this time of despair. May his soul rest in peace.
