REPORT ON INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH MR. SURENDRA BAJRACHARYA

29-Jun-2020

By Isha Sharma Gauli

On the 20th of June, DWIT news organized a live interaction session with Mr. Surendra Bajracharya on the topic “Understanding Autism”. The very goal of this session was to draw the attention of our audience towards the condition of the autistic children in our society on today’s date.

Brief introduction of the guest:

Mr. Surendra Bajracharya is Chief Administrator and Project Manager at Autism Care Nepal. By profession, he is a Physiotherapist and a Public Health Officer.

Why did we invite him?

As we all know, autism is still a social stigma in Nepalese society. The term autism is still unheard of by many people in our society. Since autism is not a physically apparent disease many people find it very difficult to know if the person is autistic or not. Since Mr. Bajracharya is associated with Autism care Nepal, we invited him to clear the doubts about autism. We wanted to know what autism is, we also wanted to know more about its symptoms and causes. Therefore we invited our special guest for the interaction session.

About the Session:

We started off by talking about the symptoms that autistic children show early in their age. He explained the diagnosis process to the audience in a very easy manner. He also gave us a brief knowledge about the training session provided to autistic children and their parents by Autism Care Nepal. Lastly, we talked about how the current situation is affecting the children. The lockdown has been a very hard time for both the children and the parents. All in all, the session was very interactive and we got to know so much about autism.
