Our country is exceptionally gifted in nature, culture and heritage. Many of the beautiful locations in Nepal are yet to be explored and accessed. To promote tourism, the Minister of Culture, Tourism And Civil Aviation Hon. Yogesh Bhattarai proposed the idea of Visit Nepal 2020. Visit Nepal 2020, is the much talked about topic in Nepal this year, and to support this campaign, I am going to write about a beautiful travel destination, Gosaikunda which is situated in the Rasuwa district.

Gosaikunda is one of the most beautiful lakes in Nepal, which is visited by many internal as well as external tourists. The lake is a very popular trekking destination. It is located in the Langtang National Park in Rasuwa district. The Gosaikunda lake is a sacred lake and lies at an elevation of 4,300 meters.

The Gosaikunda lake is considered to be the purest holy lake. As per the Hindu mythology, Gosaikunda is the abode of Hindu deities Lord Shiva and Gauri. Known for its’ religious importance, many tourists visit this place in religious occasions.

Gosaikunda is also loved by trekkers from all around the world. Gosaikunda trek is a short trek of 5-8 days in the Langtang region of Nepal. The trek usually starts at Chisapani or Dhunche. However, Dhunche is the most trending trail. You can arrive at Dunche by taking a bus from Kathmandu or on your own motorbikes.

While trekking to Gosaikunda, you will see the view of many snow-capped mountains which makes the trek mesmerizing. In the trail, you will come across several villages with different culture and tradition. Tamanags and Sherpas, whose culture is influenced by the Tibetan culture, reside in these villages. While trekking you might also get sight of some endangered and rare wildlife. The region is famous mainly for snow leopard and red panda which falls on the endangered list.

The best time to pay a visit to Gosaikunda is from April to early June and from August to October. Monsoon and winter season is not preferred to visit Gosaikunda because during these seasons the trekkers find it very difficult to trek.

A trek to Gosaikunda is a lifetime experience. So, if you have not visited this place yet, I would highly recommend you to do so.
