BOOK REVIEW: THE ALCHEMIST

The Alchemist is written by a Brazilian author Paulo Coelho in 1988 A.D. This book was originally written in Portuguese and it later became an international bestseller. I think the essential need of today's world is positivity. So, I am glad this book is a bestseller because it instills positivity into its readers.

This book is about the magical story of Santiago, who is an Andalusian shepherd. Santiago loves to wander and travel around with his flock. This book follows the young boy in his journey towards the pyramid of Egypt after he has a recurring dream of finding the treasure there. After setting his goal, he does not give up until the end despite facing many difficulties and sufferings in his journey. Hence, this story comes with a lesson that if you truly desire something then the whole universe conspires to give you what you want.

This book emphasizes the values of spirituality, faith, hope, and love. According to Coelho, the most dangerous hindrance in human life is fear. The fear of failure stops us from living our destiny and the greatest victory in man’s life is overcoming this fear. The novel also makes us believe that true love can be a supporting tool for achieving one’s dream rather than being any disturbance. The writer makes the readers realize that living your dreams does come with a price but it is still better than not living your dreams.

This book definitely deserves a place in everybody's bookshelf. I highly recommend this book as the book’s purpose is to make the readers believe that having faith in destiny ultimately leads them to achieve it. This book is a very helpful book. It has a very optimistic approach to make the reader understand how important it is to follow your dream. Nevertheless, it gradually but firmly establishes the idea of believing in oneself in the reader’s mind.
