Book Review: All About Love: Bell Hooks
22-Jun-2020

Written by Bell Hooks, All About Love is a book that describes the flaws in love, especially in the way we perceive it as a feeling that completes and glorifies life. In the book, the writer defines what love really is and what it isn’t by referring to rules and guidelines to live by that increases one’s ability to love and to be loved.
Time and again, when we hear about fairytale stories or romantic movies, their happy endings make us believe that everything goes on perfectly well when we are in love. However, this idea is confined just to movies as it really doesn’t apply in our real lives. Everything in life, be it our day to day lives or relationships with people, doesn’t purely involve smiles and kisses. Therefore, the writer portrays the reality of love in real life and how it is different from movies or fairytales.
Throughout the book chapters, one would find many faults in love, not only in one’s ideas of what love is, but also in what one anticipated to get from it and how we search for it. All in all, the book provides a unique perception towards love and states that it is necessary to change the way we look at it.
