Participants of WordPress Workshop
On Jan. 7, DWIT Software Club conducted a five-hour WordPress Workshop. Subigya Nepal ’17, the ex-president of DWIT Software Club, facilitated the workshop which saw participation from more than 20 students, especially from Class of 2019 and 2020. The workshop started at 11.00 a.m. and ended at 3.30 p.m. It covered the basics of using WordPress, building a website using WordPress, hosting websites, and different ways of earning money through those websites. The workshop was segregated into two sessions – usingWordPress, and Hosting/Monetizing. The first session started with the basics of installingWordPress and understanding what WordPress is. The facilitator, Subigya Nepal, also briefed the participants about the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com, history of WordPress, and the technology used by WordPress. The session continued as Mr. Nepal taught the participants about all the features, techniques, tips and tricks of using WordPress. The participants were amazed by the ease of use of the software and the fantastic results it generated.
“WordPress is such a useful software, especially for web enthusiasts. The friendly user-interface and the implementation of ‘What You See Is What You Get’ concept makes this one of the best tools for both layman and professionals.” – Abhishek Kadariya ’19, Participant
The second session of the workshop continued after a short lunch break. The session covered the topics on registering a domain, hosting a website, and monetizing a website. The session was technical yet informative. Mr. Nepal also shared his five years of experience in blogging and use of WordPress, and highly encouraged the participants to start their own blog. He also acquainted the participants with some well-known and successful bloggers.
“It's always good to learn something new and when it is from one of our own senior students, it’s even better. Even though the session was long and we had a lot to cover, it was very fruitful. Thanks, Software Club and Subigya.” – Praysuh Shrestha ’18, Participant
[caption id="attachment_15517" align="aligncenter" width="532"]WordPress-Workshop-DWIT Subgiya Nepal '17, Facilitator of WordPress Workshop[/caption] WordPress powers more than 60 million websites on the internet and much of web-development in Nepal is based on WordPress. DWIT Software Club conducted this workshop as they felt the need that DWIT students should have a fair knowledge and skills to use WordPress. “We wanted to introduce the students of Class of 2019 and 2020 to blogging and the tools available (WordPress, Google AdSense, Google Analytics) that will help them start their blog. The workshop went as expected but there is always room for improvement.”, said Shreyansh Lodha ’18, President of DWIT Software Club. I was one of the participants of the workshop, and I must say it was very informative and well-managed. It covered all the necessary information for anyone to start their own blog. The second session of the workshop, especially related to hosting, was quite technical and I found it difficult to grasp all that was being shared. Considering the fact that, the workshop was hosted by one of the students, the standard of the workshop was highly maintained. I hope to see the same level of standard being maintained from the DWIT Software Club in the future.
