There are many clubs in DWIT and all of them are run by students. All of its members as well as the presidents and vice-presidents of every one of those clubs are students of DWIT. One of the clubs in DWIT is The Software Club. It is responsible for organizing different technology related events and competitions. They are also keen in keeping their fellow students aware about different technology related topics and discussions that are taking the world by storm. One of the most recent events that the Software Club organized was a workshop for understanding as well as learning Wordpress, and the event was aptly named “Up and Running with Wordpress”. The event took place on 8th February, 2015. The main goal of the event was to teach the students of DWIT how Wordpress works. Wordpress is a tool that can be used to set up a website in a simple way. It is great tool to create a website or a blog. Our very own DWIT News site is managed using Wordpress. So, as you can imagine, Wordpress is a very useful tool that anyone can use. They taught their fellow students of DWIT how to create a website (or blog) using Wordpress, how to register domain names of websites, how to optimize the site, how to keep it secure and how servers help us to use the websites on the internet. They all gave a live demo on all these topics to the students. They talked about the advantages, drawbacks and present situation of having and registering a domain name of a website. They also taught the students about how a website is hosted on the internet. They all gave tips and showed some tricks on this subject. All three speakers were wonderful and knew exactly what they were talking about. The event was a wonderful experience for everyone who attended. These types of events are necessary to us because just studying the course materials won’t make much of a difference when we try to compete with the rest of the world. These types of events are what set a student of DWIT apart. Good Job Software Club. We are hoping a lot more of these types of new, innovative and exciting events from you guys.
