Movies: An Important Part of Life

By Bimal Gaire

Happiness is the most important thing that we need in our life. We seek happiness in the smallest bits of our everyday moments. We need fun and entertainment as well. Everything we do to pass our time is telling of our character and way of life. Some of us read books whereas others enjoy watching movies or listen to music or do arts, etc.... The most fascinating thing about movies is that they show us the world as we want it to be. We get lost in the world created by others which becomes an obsession. Things we cannot achieve in our real life can be at least seen through the moving pictures that pass right through our heart and mind and not just the eyes. Some of the things we see in the movies remain as memories for the rest of our lives. The dialogues and the characters may resonate with us in ways which make us believe that our own life is being portrayed on the silver screen. Other times, we want to be like the characters and want to possess the astonishing qualities they exhibit. I am a really huge fan of Hollywood and the movies they produce have become an important part of my life. I find it very difficult to stay away from the 14’ display of my laptop where I mostly enjoy watching films. Movies like “The Shawshank Redemption” and “A beautiful Mind” will never be erased from my mind. These are the some of the best movies ever made in the history and really prove why they are considered classics. Sci-fi films may not be everyone’s cup of tea. They contain intense action scenes and ideas beyond normal. These can be very difficult to fully understand. They always leave moviegoers with some queries which make them even more intriguing. Movies not only help us pass our time, they can be a source of knowledge too. Some of the materials that we see in these motion pictures are really helpful. Movies based on true stories portray the actual event that happened in the history. Movies based on World Wars, tsunamis, great people like Leo Tolstoy or John Nash deliver the actual happenings. In my opinion, they can be even more striking than books and other art forms. The story of Oscar Schindler would not have been delivered to the world if it was not for the masterpiece created by Steven Spielberg. His heroism which saved the lives of many Jews during the World War II still becomes the light of hope and strength for many of us. I see my friends watching movies to get inspiration. Movies made on the lives of great people such as Steve Jobs, Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln inspires people to act as they did. I don’t mean to say that all movies are good and noteworthy. That depends upon our taste and the choice we make. Some of the movies can be a real waste of time and total garbage. I have some suggestions to all the movie lovers out there. Before starting a movie, do a little research about the movie. Check the ratings on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes. Go through some of the reviews and decide whether you really want to watch it or not. Box office collection can be an indication for the popularity of a movie. After doing all the homework, you can distinguish the good ones from the bad ones. In the meantime there are always some exceptions. If you like some inspiring as well as the good ones you can check out the IMDB top 250. This will really enhance your taste towards some of the masterpieces in cinema.
