Indoor Cricket: An Amusing Experience

By Kundan Shumsher Rana

7th December, 2014 DWIT The DWIT Sports Club organized a game of indoor cricket. Cricket Lovers from DWIT went to Ultimate Indoor Cricket, Sahayoginagar, Koteshwor to play a game of cricket. An inning lasts about an hour, so we ended up playing 2 innings. For those of you who don’t know what an inning is, it is the division of a game during which both sides have a turn at batting, that is, after both teams have finished batting, 1 inning is over. For 2 hours all of us forgot about all the stress, all the responsibilities, all the assignments and all the frustrations we face on a daily basis. All of us had lots of fun. The feeling of adrenaline rushing through your veins is quite amazing! We were in complete bliss for 2 hours. The feeling you get after you catch the ball when you dive for it while fielding, the thrill you experience when you hit a sixer while batting, the rush you get when you hit the wicket while bowling, these are indescribable feelings you get while playing cricket. These are the reasons why I love cricket. I have been a fan of the game since I was old enough to hold a bat and have been playing it for the past 8 years. We divided two teams among ourselves. Each team had 7 members. The members of team A comprised: Kundan Shumsher Rana (myself), Sumit Shrestha, Sachin Aryal, Pratibh Acharya, Sanjeev Mainali, Amun Kharel, Asim Regmi. The members of team B were: Bimal Gaire, Shankar Koirala, Bidish Acharya, Sameer Koirala, Abhisek Gupta, Suman Thapa, Manoj Gyawali In indoor cricket the rules for batting are: Each team chooses two batsmen to play for 4 overs. Even if a batsman is out, he will continue the game but 5 runs will be deducted from the total runs. A total of 12 overs were allocated but since we had 7 members in each team, the 7th batsman played alone for the last 2 overs, making it a 14 over game for a team. In the first game, Team A scored 49 runs and won. In the second game, Team B came back with a vengeance and scored 134 runs while Team A had scored only 34 runs. We were utterly defeated in the second game. Sanjeev Mainali was the only person during the entire day to score 2 sixes and 2 fours. He was declared the man of the match. Even though Team A lost the game, everyone was happy that we got to play such an amazing 2 innings. We were thrilled, we had fun but most importantly we made wonderful memories. Bimal will always be the person who caught a high speed ball by diving for it. Sanjeev will always be the person who was able to hit sixes and fours that day. Sumit will always cherish the memory of his first ever cricket match. It will always be the day when Sachin struck the ball so hard, that the ball shot passed Sanjeev's face like a bullet. Bidish spent the whole day making jokes. These are the only memories that I know of. If others have any lasting memories of it, please comment below. At the end of the day, we received a token from the people over at Ultimate Indoor Cricket, a small trophy. All of us took out turns to take pictures with it. We took about 50-60 pictures with it and returned it back to them. All in all we had the times of our lives and hope the sports club will organize another game soon. We can’t wait!
