Heart of a Basketball Player

By Sneha Parajuli

"I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed."

-Michael Jordan

It is said that sports indeed are a great metaphor of life. Like in sports, we must cultivate the essential skills and tactics for attaining the things we want in our lives. For that, all we require is an effort. Also, we desire for perfection in life as we desire for perfection in sports. Reaching to perfection is not a cake walk. If we want to be perfect we have to fight for it, if not it’s like we are ok being a mediocre. But the real fact is, no one likes to be in the position called nowhere. Hence, the dynamics in the game of basketball very much resemble to what  takes place in our life. Basketball is a team sport, which means it requires contribution and cooperation from every member in order to play well and win. Everyone must focus, work together and live up to their individual roles for the communal good of the team. Being a basketball player, the same applies in my life as well. Contribution, assistance and sharing are the most vital parts of my life. Wins and losses come a dime a dozen. I have won many games and have even tasted the flavor of loss, but because of basketball, I’ve learned to accept both victory and defeat jovially. Basketball has also taught me determination. I have learned to never, ever give up. In my life, if something is not working the way I planned it to work like, I settle then plan again and again. Basketball has made me aware that life presents us with many challenges for which we must be prepared. It has made me understand that preparedness sets the stage of accomplishment in our life. I’ve faced many ups and downs in my life. I have fallen down, got pushed, depreciated, and when I was down, I was stepped on. But in spite of that, I never gave up; I gathered all the courage and tried to get onto my feet.  I believe, getting up after we fall is climbing one stair towards success.  Life is a maze, we fail to get out of the maze more often than we win. Every single step to get out of the maze is upon us. We should be brave enough to face the obstacle, our opponents, and every challenging situation. A game has everything that our lives need. We are responsible to prove ourselves and in order to do it, we should earn it. Once we decide where in life we want to be, no one can stop us from pushing ourselves forward until we get there. At the end of the day success is all we want, we all want to win the game.
