Today - 27th September - Google is celebrating its 18th birthday with a Google Birthday Doddle. In the doodle, the letter 'G' falls from the sky, blows a balloon, converts to the Google logo, and flies away with the logo. The colorful animated doodle is being shown in the web browsers around the world. From today, Google is officially an adult.

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998. Since 1998 Google has been growing at an exponential rate. Google has officially declared its birthday date on 27th September. However, it seems that Google itself was confused about its real birth date. In 2006, Google celebrated its birthday on 27th September. Just a year before that, it celebrated its birthday on 26th September. In 2004 it was on 6th September and just a year before that on 8th September. Google has celebrated its birthday on four different dates. But now it has decided on a specific date.

27th September has been declared as the official birth date of Google. Since Google published its first doodle on 27th September 2002 with the theme of Burning Man festival, the company has announced 27th September as its official birth date. However, the first Doodle for the Burning Man festival in 1998 actually occurred before the company was technically founded.

Ever since its fourth birthday in 2002, the trend of celebrating its birthday with Doodle has continued till date.
