Future of Football

By Ankit Pradhan

Football is the most popular game in the whole world. Some of the earliest evidence of football being played was found in China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. In China, it was during the rule of the Han dynasty that people dribbled leather balls by kicking them into a small net. Recorded facts also support that Romans and Greeks used to play ball for fun. Other facts point to Kyoto in Japan, where kicking of ball was a popular sport. But it is said that early growth of the modern football really started in England. Science and technology have influenced the whole world that even it is being used in sports as well. And football is also yet another sport where technology is being used. Football is being organized by different organizations amidst which the most common and the biggest is FIFA. In football, we can find that sometimes the referee makes quite a wrong decision due to miscommunication and sometimes they are biased or match fixing is done. So, to eliminate these kind of mistakes and fraud, technologies such as goal line (goal line decision), Hawk-Eye, GoalRef are being used. Goal-line technology is a method that gives accurate decision on whether the ball crossed the goal line or not. It takes the assistance of different electronic devices. This will literally help FIFA with the disputes that fan and players have with a goal being disallowed. The Hawk - Eye is another technology used to predict where the ball will go. There are 6 very sensitive cameras used in each corner and different sides of the net. It notifies the ref within 1 second via watch. GoalRef system is based on principle of electromagnetic induction. There are coins installed on the goal posts and crossbar that the monitor’s frequency magnetic field generated around the goal. The software monitors the condition of the magnetic field in the goal and can detect the change that occurs in it due to the passage of the coils in the ball over the line. If there is any change  detected, then the system sends an encrypted radio signal in real time to a wristwatch worn by the referee, which both vibrates and displays a message that a goal was scored. And these technologies are very costly. In the near future, these football technologies can be used more to gain more accurate results. We can use technologies such as sensor in shoes, fields, microphones with players, etc. These types of technologies can make the gameplay easier by providing the easy coaching platform. The sensor used in shoes can help to detect the speed of the player and the ball as well. One day might come in future, when we all may be sitting in a room and playing online virtual football. Although being virtual, it will be a real world game. We all may have seen cartoon like Galactic Football where different technologies are being used and the game is just not between countries but the whole universe. So we cannot imagine how far the future of football can go with the help of technology Technology field has a very large area and it can never end, though it may grow old and new technology may replace them. Football is a game which has a very large number of fans has been influenced by this field of technology. Not only football, but also other sports games like long tennis, table tennis,
