On Dec 15, DWIT News conducted a workshop on News Presentation and Field Reporting. Akankshya Upadhyay, News Presenter at Kantipur Television and a final year student of DWIT facilitated the half an hour workshop. A total of five students from the DWIT News Media Team participated in the workshop. The main objective of the workshop was to enhance news presentation and field reporting skills of the presenters. This session mainly focused on voice projection, body language, and script writing. Ms. Akankshya started the workshop with a warm welcome and shared her initial experiences in News presentation with DWIT Media Club. She shared how she entered the Media club and what got her into news reading in the first place. Following that, the workshop focused on tips for news reading. She talked about how the news script is to be read and the different variations in the voice that must be brought when encountering different punctuations. She also gave a demonstration by reading a college news script and pointed out some examples of words that must be stressed to make the news dramatic and interesting.“To read the news effectively, you first have to feel it”, says Akankshya Upadhyay. “With slight variation in tone, the news can be made interesting.”Finally, the workshop ended with a Q&A session. She also gave some suggestions to improve the quality of college news videos. I was also one of the participants of the workshop, and in my opinion, the workshop was very helpful as it gave me a better understanding of news presentation.
