Dependence on Others
Everything in this world is interdependent. Interdependence is responsible for sustenance of life on Earth. Ecosystem is an example of such interdependence. In an ecosystem, each creature depends on the other to fulfil its needs. Similar is the case with us, the humans. We, directly or indirectly, depend onothers to fulfil our daily needs. We depend on our friends for help on assignments or projects, on our family for their love and support, on our teachers for learning and guidance. Furthermore, employees depend upon employers and vice versa; writers depend upon readers and vice versa, people depend upon nature and vice versa. So basically, every creature on earth depends on the other to move forward in their life. Everything has pros and cons, and so does co-dependency. Dependence on others is advantageous in the sense that there are always people around to help us, support us and give us happiness. Dependence on others has helped us to form this society and make us social. However, always being dependent on others is not beneficial. If we depend on others to fulfil our every need then we will not be able to become self-sufficient. We will always be left behind, depending on others, with a thought that there will always be someone to take care of us. Depending on others causes us to lose faith on our own potential. It prevents us from being an independent learner. Hence, when meticulously analyzed, depending on others as a rule, is more disadvantageous than advantageous. We should be keen to learn new things independently rather than being dependent on others. We should only depend on others for those things which are impossible to be attained on our own, for example, for oxygen from plants, for water from nature, for light from sun, for love from others. These things can neither be learnt nor be created. Hence, dependence on these things is natural. However, besides these, we have started to depend on others for our small needs as well. This habit of depending on others should be changed and we should develop the habit of learning from others. Dependence on others is good when we are seriously in need of something and we don’t have any option. In that case, we can request for help from others but cannot completely depend on them. Therefore, we should always promote independence and avoid dependence as much as we can. That way, we can live a dignified life.
