General Overview: Health and Lifestyle

Health is an important factor in human life. It plays a vital role in our life. A healthy person can think healthy and work healthy. When we have a healthy body and a healthy mind we can give our 100%. This will help us get ahead in every part of life. If a person is unhealthy he will be just a burden to himself and his family. That is why one should be self aware and should chose to live a healthy life.

Lifestyle is the daily activities and behavior of a person. This includes the work you do, people you interact with, food you eat and activities you do in your leisure time. Different people have different lifestyles. Students have different lifestyles than their parents, doctors  have different lifestyles than IT engineers. Their lifestyle choices determine their life. It depends on us how to life our life. That’s why if you are happy and healthy it's because you choose to be so. I prefer to be happy and healthy simply because life is too short.

Living a healthy lifestyle should be everyone’s goal. Health and lifestyle are related to each other. Our health depends on our lifestyle and vice-versa. When you eat healthy food you will see some good changes in your daily routine. It will help you to think more creatively and your work performance will be better than before. Similarly your health depends on your lifestyle. The daily routine you follow such as exercise, your choice for food and so on. Thus they both depend on each other. It's all up to how well you can maintain your health and lifestyle. For living a healthy life you should have some good habits. If you don’t have many of the good habits then you should develop some yourselves. People usually develop bad habits easily because it gives instant gratification- "that good feel" but to develop healthy habit one need lots of constant effort and put off gratification. Replacing the unhealthy habit with the healthy one rewards you with better stamina, better quality of life and healthier you.

There are different techniques that will help you to develop the healthy habit. You need to divide the bigger goals into the smaller ones. If you have a habit of taking 20 cigarettes a day, break to 15 else 10 if you can but you need to be constant. Different surveys have concluded that it needs about regular 60 days to develop one habit. 60 days is a very long time. Rather than smoking search other alternatives. Instead start having lollipop and candy. Having too much lollipop is not good but better than cigarettes. Take challenges from your friend who is facing the same problem as you with his smoking habits. It he takes 10 cigars you go for the 9. People usually take a vow to make changes in their life. It may be learning new languages, make lot of friends, study hard etc. Regardless of what it is, people want to change in one in another way.  Most of the resolution that people make is to get into better shapes. Don't switch your decision; instead think that you are fitness enthusiast. That will reduce your failure and helps you to get motivated. You should create the plan. Then make gradual changes. This will definitely help to stay healthy.

According to our Health instructor, Doctor Ashim, these days most of the Nepali people are suffering from deficiency of vitamin D. Surveys have shown that 96% of the normal people are suffering from the deficiency of vitamin D that reduces the development of the bones. Vitamin D is essential for strong bones, because it helps the body use calcium from the diet. Traditionally, vitamin D deficiency has been associated with rickets, a disease in which the bone tissue doesn't properly form minerals, leading to soft bones and skeletal deformities In order to get rid of it, people should stay in the sunlight for around 15 minutes twice a week during the time interval 10 am to 2 pm.

So in a nutshell, enjoy some sunlight. Live healthy. Live happy!!!
